Sheriff's office's new armored vehicle unveiled on Thursday - Wilkes Journal Patriot

Chris Berman, president of Granite Tactical Vehicles, was present Thursday and said the dashboard, foot petals and other aspects of actually driving the fully automatic vehicle weren’t changed. He said it’s the fourth such vehicle the company has sold to law enforcement agencies in the U. S. Most of the others are used by companies that provide personal security in the Middle East and elsewhere. Shew said enforcement agencies in other area counties can call the Wilkes Sheriff's Office to have the armored vehicle brought to emergency situations in their counties if needed. When commissioners approved the funding, reference was made to a June 22 incident in the Bethel community of eastern Wilkes in which a Wilkes deputy and another man were shot with a high-powered rifle and a third man was shot with a flare gun. During a standoff with the suspect in the shootings that same day, the sheriff's office was unable to use its military surplus tracked armored vehicle due to mechanical problems. Shew said he also wanted to replace the tracked vehicle because it had to be hauled on a tractor-trailer and because officers needed specialized training to operate the vehicle. Big Guy’s Pinball LLC v. Lipham, Case No, 14-CV-14185, 2015 WL 4209042 (July 10, 2015). U. S. District Judge Victoria A. Roberts denied the defendant’s motion to dismiss an action for copyright infringement based on a lack of personal jurisdiction. Plaintiff Big Guy’s Pinball, LLC (“BGP”) distributed a free software program called “Nucore,” which emulates the function of a mechanical pinball machine. BGP filed suit against defendant Lipham, a resident of Georgia, alleging that Lipham downloaded the Nucore program from BGP’s website, modified it (including removing security protections), and republished it on Lipham’s own website. Lipham also moved to dismiss the copyright infringement count based on allegations that BGP violated the terms of an open source software license agreement that required BGP to distribute the program under the terms of the open source license. The court denied the motion to dismiss for lack of personal jurisdiction, holding that jurisdiction over Lipham was proper under the Michigan long-arm statute, M. C. L. § 600. 705, and met the minimum contacts required to satisfy due process... What they’ve seen is the Conquest Knight XV. It is a rare beast. It takes about six months to build a Knight XV, and Conquest Vehicles actually machine their own parts out of stainless steel and aluminum. The opulent armoured Knight XV (which stands for “extreme vehicle”) is a magnet for attention everywhere it rolls. The Canadian Press saw proof on a recent ride through downtown Toronto.
