DETROIT (AP) — General Motors and Subaru are adding vehicles to the growing list of models being recalled by 11 automakers due to potentially exploding air bags. GM is adding about 375,000 GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado heavy-duty pickup trucks from 2007 and 2008 to the recall in North America. Subaru is adding about 60,000 Impreza small cars from the 2004 and 2005 model years plus the 2005 Saab 9-2X made by Subaru. The recall also covers passenger air bags. The vehicles are equipped with air bag inflators made by Takata Corp. Source: fox8.com

Culinary Arts Camp will whip up tons of fun in the kitchen - Gulf Coast News Today

Camp creators Jessica Jones and Jonathan Langston have an array of goals for the camp, and for the first- through 12th-grade campers. They said among those goals are to introduce inspiration and confidence into the art of food preparation. Langston, organizer and instructing chef, said that letting children into the kitchen helps each individual and family unit. “Teaching children to cook from basic ingredients helps them to develop a mature palate and they are much more likely to eat what they make,” he said. “This ultimately gives them confidence in the kitchen which can be nurtured into quality family time preparing meals together. The week will begin with Dale and Glenn Beard, owners of The Meat Mart at Orange Beach, as they teach students how to cut, marinate and dehydrate their famous jerky. They will help cut the meat, then each child will marinate it in Dale’s Seasoning and dehydrate it for two to three hours. “She grew up in our butcher shop and cut her teeth on jerky. “Children love to learn, they love to eat, but they don’t always eat what’s best for them. Glenn has 38 years’ experience in the meat industry and has owned his own butcher shop since 2004. “It is a forgotten art – most meat is cut in factories, shipped to stores. Silverhill man facing attempted murder charges following 6-hour standoff with ... - Gulf Coast News Today

An officer with the Silverhill Police Department responded to a report of shots fired at 10:30 p. m. Tuesday at the residence. “The officer turned on his lights in the driveway to identify himself and approached the privacy fence leading to the residence which was locked,” Wasdin said. “He saw a man inside the residence and identified himself to the man. The officer, who was not injured by the shot, retreated and called for backup, Wasdin said. Deputies from the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Office, along with Elberta, Loxley and Fairhope police departments, responded. When a fellow officer called for support, his fellow officers did not hesitate to take the proper action to ensure a good result. Hails was arrested, he is uninjured and all of the officers involved are uninjured. There was no one else present in the home at the time of the incident, Wasdin said, and all of the surrounding residents were evacuated during the standoff. Investigators recovered several handguns, along with several long guns, rifles and several rounds of ammunition at the scene, Wasdin said.
