NEW FORD F-150 LIGHTNING. Theres some buzz coming out of Detroit of a possible new Ford F-150 Lightning. For those of you that arent familiar, the Lightning was a SVT performance truck with plenty of power and sport driving characteristics (limited production 1993 to 1995, and 1999 to 2004). Roving reporter KGP Photography spotted a F-150 mule on the... Its not clear if its an SVT Raptor, so could it be a Lightning or maybe even some sort of new 4x4 trim package. The dual exhaust and SVT parts on this test mule point to the performance side. Should Ford bring back the Lightning. Ford Motor Company's Truck Communications Manager Mike Levine denied the Lightning on Twitter here: There are no current plans to build a new F-150 Lightning. With all of the hoopla surrounding the redesigned 2015 Ford F-150, it's way too easy to forget one simple question: Is it a good truck. Indeed, the F-150 is a good truck, but the Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra and Ram 1500 are better. The resulting weight loss, coupled with an amazingly small 2. 7-liter EcoBoost turbo V6, helps the truck return an impressive 17 mpg. The Ram 1500 diesel still leads the class with 20 mpg overall. Plus, that Ford engine feels downright frisky to drive, and it doesn't bat a whisker at towing a good-sized trailer. (Read the complete Ford F-150 road test. Towing and payload capacities are high, particularly with the available 3. 5-liter EcoBoost V6. We certainly appreciate all of the clever and innovative gadgets, ranging from the familiar tailgate step to new features like spotlights in the mirrors. Put simply, the F-150's engineering proves to be far more revolutionary than how it actually drives. For years, Ford has built the most "truck-like" pickup, and this truck doesn't stray from that path. It's like Ford was afraid that they already asked buyers to swallow enough "newness" with the 2015 F-150, so they slavishly benchmarked how the old truck felt from behind the wheel. My co-workers go the same places with their Ram Truck with less problems than I have with my F-150. Ford left me down, Ford abandoned me, that 2015 wasn't built for me, it was built for the new customer that never owned a truck before. Ford is telling me they don't want me as a customer anymore, they don't need me. They placed all their eggs in one basket and in time it will catch up to them. As it currently stands they are only producing around 10k-12k new aluminium F-150s at their Detroit, Henry Ford plant. As good as it is to employ more people, this has yet to translate into volume and numbers moved off the lot for Ford. Ford is selling less pickups with a few thousand more workers. Is this a competitive position for Ford. Is more going on behind the scenes that Ford doesn't want market analysts and shareholders to know about. As of the end of february ford has sold 7,000 more pickups than at this point in 2014. 2015 f-150 is one of the fastest selling trucks right now. I expect ford sales to be down.   "I bought my 2003 XLT Lariat Crew Cab with 150,000 miles on it .I now have 196 k on it , and it has served me well . The main reason why bought it was because i needed a truck , and this one was Beautiful and well maintained ( knew the owner ). Bright red Harley Davidson clone . Truck rides good , handles decently for a truck , and does everything fairly well , but nothing over the top . Here are my points of contention : 1. The 5.4 triton is not that great of a motor compared to its GM alternative . Not only does my wives 5.3 suburban have better pick up and smoother running , it gets better gas mileage . I barely break 15 consistently with this vehicle . If I got 15 all the time , i would not say a word . But if i put my foot in it , I'm in the 14 , high 13 mpg . 2. Interior justs has no pizzaz whatsoever . Cheaply made , and it looks it . I know the following year the body style changed , and interior was upgraded tremendously , but 2003 and older missed out 3. Changing the spark plugs can be a nightmare , same with changing the oil . had to fabricate an oil change funnel or there would be oil all over the bottom of my truck"
