Rutland Town board moves forward with highway garage - Rutland Herald

Rutland Town Select Board members approved an Act 250 permit Tuesday night to move along the process of building a new highway garage. At town meeting last week, voters approved the allocation of $700,000 to construct the garage. The measure passed by a vote of 580-381. Despite the number of dissenting voters, Rutland Town employees and officials said they have only heard encouragement from constituents. The motion to continue with the plan passed on Tuesday night by a unanimous Select Board vote. Select Board Chairman Joe Dicton who was elected board president at the start of Tuesday nights session signed off on the permit on behalf of the Select Board and the voters of Rutland Town. Rutland Town voters will still need to approve final plans in another vote on a separate date, which Road Commissioner Byron Hathaway estimated would be held in June.
