TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY — The North Carolina Highway Patrol responded to a head-on vehicle collision on U. S. Highway 276 near Connestee Road at 5 p. m. that left one person dead. James Holpp, 83, was driving a 2013 Nissan Altima when he crossed the center line and struck a 2001 Ford F-550 driven by Herald Ball, 73, Trooper Kelly Rhodes said. Holpp’s wife, Dorothy Holpp, 73, was in the passenger seat and was pronounced dead at the scene. The wreck occurred in approximately the same location as an accident in December where three school children were struck by a vehicle while crossing the street to board a school bus.
