To keep from using Ford’s new F-150 pickup just as a daily driver, and then bitching about people who do that, I went and got a load of topsoil with it, and then a thousand pounds of granite steppers. This is the first full-size pickup with a body — cab and cargo bed — made of high-grade aluminum. The frame, mostly of new high-strength steel, is stiffer but lighter, too. Result: a weight loss of up to 750 pounds, depending on configuration. Rather than bet on a new President next year to roll back tightening fuel-economy standards, Ford is trying to meet them. Our sample F-150, a 145-inch-wheelbase 4X4 Supercab, barely squeezed into my driveway, but it also managed to squeeze 23 miles out of a gallon of regular gas, at least when it wasn’t full of landscaping materials. This is not revolutionary, but it’s good for a huge and powerful 4WD truck, and it’s also what last week’s Hyundai Santa Fe achieved — a four-cylinder vehicle that’s three-quarters the size of this F-150. So much weight loss should also mean more... With 325 horsepower and 375 pounds-feet of torque, it’s a V-6 that thinks it’s a V-8, and it appears to be the smallest, lightest and most efficient engine in a full-size pickup.   "Bought my truck used and drove it without incident, problem or suspicious behavior for 4 years. Then the check engine light came on and it fell victim to the ubiquitous fuel delivery issues. After investigating the issue on line I found that it was a fairly common problem with this engine/model and had been for several model years. (Bummer, why didn't Ford improve the design and eliminate this issue?) Had to invest a few bucks in repairs (about $1000), and there were some warranty issues that were handled free of charge (would have been about $3000 more.) After the work was done, the truck was not restored to its amazing, previous state... it was better. More power, better mpg (by 2 mpg, which is significant with a 5.4 litre engine that was getting about 15 mpg) and smoother running. I didn't even realize there was an issue before and could not imagine it could be better, but that "check engine" light came on and I got the issues repaired. I cursed that stupid light, but now am pleased that it came on and saved me from additional damage or a road side stranding. LOVE my truck!!!"

  I love this truck, ive had it for a year and half. Was a little gutless when I first purchased it, but after switching out my Battery, changing to full synthetic 5w30, with top a top end oil filter, and air filter I was able to bring out that awesome triton power. Towed 10k lbs on a ball from Calgary to medicine hat (mostly flat with a few long grades 3-6%) and I hardly could tell I had so much weight back there. This truck has seen mudding in the mounts, towing across country, hell I drove it threw a river, got a squeaky belt and kept right on going lol. In town she looks good, when its time to work shes ready to go. There are issues with these trucks, however I haven't got any yet!

  Best Features

  Massive towing (3.73 4x4 with locking diff, trailer brakes) Comfortable ride (old man ford style) Great in slippery conditions although the backend is very light! Shes a looker! I get many comments on the look of my truck :) Roomie!!! I am 6'3 and 370lbs, I require space and this truck has it in spades! And how bout all that triton power, first off if ur looking to race people with your truck, get a ram, if your looking to I donno pull the how on earth can ur truck handle that, this is the truck for you!

  Worst Features

  Ford really needs to do something about the spark plug issue, I do have the updated motor that was released in mid 06 to help resolve the issue, however im still worried and am due for my plugs to be changed. Also with research its been found that the ports wear out over time and a heavier oil is required to remove the triton tick, as the valves wear out in the aluminum blocks over time and require a thicker oil to continue proper lubrication, ford should have stuck to forged steel in there blocks for this motor, despite the increased price for it! LT tires are a must, its a heavy truck and off pavement driving on anything but LT tires destroys them.
