Despite a muggy evening, the Yorkton Exhibition Truck and Tractor Pulls were packed with people both Friday and Saturday. Contenders this year included “Goin’ Towin’” driven by Grant Braun, a lime green, four wheel drive 1979 Ford F-100 with a 528 Ford engine and 900 horsepower that was able to pull the weight sled over 200 feet. Another great pull was by Tom Christensen driving “Plum Crazy”, a four wheel drive 1947 GMC with a 638 CU IN, Chev Merlin engine and 1200 horsepower. “Passin Time”, the last contender in the modified truck class, is a 1966 Ford F-100 with a 528 Ford engine and 1050 horsepower. It was able to pull up to 207 feet. In the smaller weight class, the first turbocharged mini to be built in Saskatchewan pulled its way through the course, “Frank-N-Stein”, driven by Karl Getz. Boston is a city steeped in history. A city that sports some of the oldest buildings in America mixed in with modern architectural wonders. A city where history lurks around every corner and every nook. On a recent trip to Beantown I experienced one of Boston’s many houses of history. The place I visited this time – for the first time – was the John F. Kennedy Presidential Museum and Library. The television footage and personal artifacts from the Kennedy years took me to a different time in my mind. As I walked among the halls of the classy and modern museum, I couldn’t help but think about Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Roger Maris and other major league baseball stars from that era taking hacks in batting boxes inside Comiskey Park, Tiger Stadium... Kennedy’s presidency ended on a date forever sketched in time on Nov. That day in ’63 was an entire generation’s day to remember. Therefore, after my morning trip to witness the life and times of JFK and after I spent time in the historic Omni Parker House – the hotel where Kennedy proposed to Jacqueline "Jackie" Bouvier and featured the original Boston Crème Pie – I decided...
