Man drives truck through tree before hitting west Greeley bank - Greeley Tribune
A Greeley man is likely in jail today after crashing his pickup through a tree and into a west Greeley bank. Greeley police responded at 2:09 p. m. to the crash at the First Bank building, 4322 9th St. Road, just east of Walmart. The driver, Richard Salazar, 39, of Greeley was driving east on 10th Street and clipped a westbound Dodge Durango at the Walmart entrance at 43rd Avenue, ripping off the Durango’s bumper. Salazar then swerved north, jumped the hill on the north side of 10th Street, drove into a tree and hit the bank. Salazar, who was coming back to Greeley from Loveland, was cited for DUI and reckless driving, said Greeley Police Sgt. Mathis said Salazar was driving a silver Dodge Ram 1500, and fled the scene after he crashed, running into a residential neighborhood north of the bank. Firefighters said the driver was likely driving at a high rate of speed because skid marks indicate the car jumped over the hill before uprooting and splitting a 40-inch diameter tree and hitting the bank. Fishing rods and tackles were in the bed of the truck, and firefighters said the truck smelled of fish. One of the tires on the Dodge Ram was popped, and the front and back windshields were shattered. Banner paramedics, Greeley Police Department, and Greeley Fire Department engines responded.
