SEATTLE -- A 16-year-old boy arrested in a Saturday Pioneer Square shooting escaped detention Monday before his scheduled court hearing. The teen was arrested Saturday afternoon after a 42-year-old man was found in the street with gunshot wounds to his legs near Second Avenue South and South Main Street. Cops and a bystander applied a tourniquet to the man's left leg, which bled more profusely than his right leg, after finding him about 3:21 p. m. The man ultimately suffered seven gunshot wounds below his waist, including a shattered right femur,... A witness directed officers to a black Jeep Compass in the 100 block of Cherry Street, saying the shooter ducked into that vehicle, reports indicate. Police surrounded the vehicle and found a 16-year-old boy trying to hide in the rear passenger corner of the vehicle. 380 caliber pistol on the floor beneath the front passenger seat of the vehicle, police reports say. The Jeep in which he was found was verified as a stolen vehicle. Seattle police say the teen escaped juvenile detention shortly before his Monday court hearing.
