Belvidere Plant Could Produce Jeep Cherokee - WIFR

BELVIDERE (WIFR) – Fiat Chrysler’s top selling car is likely moving and the new location could be Belvidere. Automotive News is reporting that managers at Fiat Chrysler’s Toledo Plant were told that the hot selling Jeep Wrangler would be staying at the plant along with a new Wrangler-based pick-up. That likely means the number one selling Jeep Cherokee would be on the move. The nationally syndicated radio host says that while the Sterling Heights Michigan Plant may have more space for production, it would cost less in retooling if the Cherokee moves to Belvidere since production is similar to the Dodge Dart. Although the move at this point is speculative, the Jeep Cherokee could do wonders for Belvidere and the surrounding region. Belvidere Mayor Mike Chamberlain has watched employment numbers at the Chrysler plant steadily rise since being elected into office in 2013. He says the city full supports Fiat Chrysler with whatever decision they make. Through August, the Cherokee is the top selling Jeep vehicle, averaging more than 17,000 sales per month and just had its best August numbers ever, selling nearly 19,000.
