A judge withheld sentencing for Vernisha T. Ashby, 19, and ordered her to serve two years on probation for participating in the botched theft that allegedly involved several men trying to steal cars by sending them up a makeshift ramp fashioned... A withheld sentence means if Ashby violates the terms of her probation, she must go back before the judge to be sentenced — possibly to jail or prison time. “I am ever so confident that your stepfather and mother taught you better,” Racine County Circuit Judge Eugene Gasiorkiewicz told Ashby, doling out a tongue-lashing before handing down her sentence. Ashby is one of five Milwaukee residents accused of trying to steal cars on Sept.
