My Ride: 2003 Lexus SC430 - San Francisco Chronicle

The story of me and my Lexus SC430 reads more like a movie script than real life, but real life can occasionally imitate art. When I first met my ex in 2002, she'd had a silver Lexus SC430 with personalized plates that read BULLETT. That car, however, got traded in for a Jaguar XF. I owned a PT Cruiser and two Priuses during the marriage, but after we split I decided to take a giant leap backwards and get a Lexus SC430. Only this time, it would be cobalt blue with a saddle... The problem was that Lexus didn't make too many of them and most of them were "special order" models in the possession of owners who weren't willing to part with them. For starters, the SC 430 is really the best of European style and Japanese engineering. And the SC 430 was designed as a convertible from day one, so it's incredibly graceful to drive - and look at - whether the roof is up or down. Two were in Florida and each had over 100,000 miles on them, one was in Texas, and there was one in Seattle that had only 46,000 miles. That was the one that hooked me immediately, so on Thanksgiving Day 2010 I drove my 2010 Prius 865 miles (it took me 16. 5 hours with only two stops for gas) and bought "FAE" (short for "Forget About Everything") the next day. Yes - I gave up my 50-mpg Prius for a 20-mpg Lexus, and flew back home. Source: www.sfgate.com
