Orinda: One killed in crash on Highway 24 - Contra Costa Times

ORINDA -- A San Francisco man died early Sunday morning when the Lexus he was driving went up a highway embankment and crashed, the California Highway Patrol said. The 2004 Lexus SC 430 drifted into the center divider around 2:53 a. m. as it was speeding on eastbound Highway 24, CHP spokesman Officer John Fransen said. The car lost control just east of St. Stephens Drive, went airborne after hitting the embankment and collided with a tree, according to the CHP. The crash ejected Tanner, and the Lexus landed wheels down on top of him, the CHP said. A SIG alert for severe traffic went out at 3:20 a. m. when the CHP shut down the far left three lanes to investigate, Fransen said. Those lanes stayed closed for three hours, slowing traffic that was considerably lighter than it would've been at a different time, Fransen said. Source: www.contracostatimes.com
