Nearly Half Of All U.S. Drivers Are Over 50: Is That Good News Or Bad? - The Car Connection

If you like statistics and factoids, you're going to love the ones that the U. S. Department of Transportation has uncovered regarding American drivers. had a whopping 212. 2 million licensed drivers in 2013. Nearly half of that number -- 93. 5 million , to be precise -- were over 50 years old. The number of older drivers is rapidly increasing due to the surge of aging Baby Boomers , the last of whom earned their AARP cards in 2014. In fact, the number of drivers over 50 grew a staggering 22 percent in the decade between 2003 and 2013.... But what about younger drivers. Where do they fit in. As we've reported time and again, a significant number of younger Americans simply aren't interested in getting behind the wheel.
