Lindenhurst teen remembered for spirit, dedication - Chicago Daily Herald

"She was one of those people who could lift you up when you were down," said Dana Booker, a close friend of Haylie's family. Haylie and her father, Chris Winiewicz, 50, died Saturday after their car collided with a pickup truck at routes 45 and 132 near Lindenhurst, where they lived, authorities said. "Haylie and Chris were wonderful people and are loved by so many," said Booker, who has known the family since she started working with Chris' wife, Gina Winiewicz, at Millburn Elementary School six years ago. Booker said Chris Winiewicz was a hardworking man who would do anything for Haylie and her 16-year-old sister, Ashley. Ashley was driving the family's car when the crash occurred Saturday, said family attorney Kim Popovich. For several years, Haylie had also been involved with Twisters Elite, a dance and cheer school in Lake Villa. "We mourn the loss of such a wonderful girl and her father," a post on the Twisters Elite Facebook page said Sunday. To help the Winiewicz family with funeral costs, Booker started a GoFundMe account Sunday, raising thousands of dollars from hundreds of donors in mere hours. Other community members set up a Meal Train account , where people can sign up to bring the Winiewicz family meals or gift cards. Source: www.dailyherald.com
