IRD apply to put Petone Car Giant into liquidation - The Dominion Post

Inland Revenue has applied to put Petone car yard, Car Giant into liquidation. The Car Giant website says it was the first car supermarket in New Zealand and the largest one-site car sales operation in Australasia. The application was filed at the High Court in Wellington on July 27 and will be heard on September 8. According to the Companies Office, Graeme Farr is the sole director and shareholder of the business. However, Farr claims he resigned from the business about two years ago and agreed to stay on until a new director was appointed, "holding shares in trust". His lawyer Justin Toebes said although Farr was listed on the Companies Office, legal documents showed all shares in the business belonged to Alex Knowles, who had not updated the site when Farr resigned. A notice on the Car Giant website says Car Giant Ltd was 100 per cent owned by US-based Alex Knowles. The notice advised those who wanted to contact Knowles to "please contact AKMT Ltd or Super Save Ltd, both jointly owned by Alex Knowles and Micheal [sic] Thompson. Knowles and Thompson are both directors and shareholders of Super Save Cars, High St, Lower Hutt. Hutt City Council confirmed it issued a building consent on July 30 to demolish the premises on Western Hutt Rd, where Car Giant is situated. Source: www.stuff.co.nz
