India Association of RGV to host India Independence Day event - Monitor

India achieved its Independence from Great Britain in 1947. Mahatma Gandhi, along with several prominent leaders of Indian Independence movement led a successful campaign of non-violent protests against the British. Gandhi shared his vision of civilization when he said “An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. ” Gandhi’s teachings of non-violent resistance, known as satyagraha, has had a lasting effect and influence on the world today. He has been the role model for many famous, influential people such as American civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. and former South African President Nelson Mandela. Her work has been published in more than 50 magazines, including the Atlantic Monthly and The New Yorker, and her writing has been included in more than 50 anthologies, including The Best American Short Stories, the O. Henry Prize Stories and the... Her books have been translated into 29 languages, including Dutch, Hebrew, Bengali, Russian and Japanese, and many of them have been used for campus-wide and city-wide reads.
