Tech Notes: If you see an oil leak from the oil filter housing area, this is a likely culprit. Over time, the rubber gasket becomes flattened, hard and brittle, giving rise to oil leaks. Gasket sealant (like RTV silicone) should NOT be used when installing this gasket. All surfaces should be clean and free of debris prior to installing a new gasket. Note, the new gasket will have "rounded" edges, while your old gasket will appear thinner and "square" edged, due to being compressed/flattened over time.
