Panama man gets prison time for hitting man walking dog - Lincoln Journal Star
The Panama man who hit and killed Jami Harms’ father with a truck last year received too light a prison sentence, she said Wednesday. Her father, Gregg Nicklas, 62, was out walking his dog along a rural Hickman road the night James Gibbs, 34, ran him over and left the scene. “But what today was, was not it. ”. Gibbs told Gilbride he has felt sorry ever since the accident for what he did to Nicklas and his family. Nicklas was walking his dog along 96th Street southwest of Wagon Train State Recreation Area before 11:30 p. m. May 29, 2014, when he was hit by a pickup truck, according to the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office. His wife, Lisa Nicklas, worried her husband wasn't home, went out to look for him and found him badly injured in the ditch near their home, the sheriff said. Two days later, an attorney for Gibbs called the Sheriff's Office and provided Gibbs' name. Investigators then seized Gibbs' 2002 GMC Sierra truck, which had damage consistent with the accident. Prosecutors said Gibbs had been drinking prior to the accident at the Hickman Bar and Grill. She, and others in the bar that night, said Gibbs was drinking Hamm's beer and Red Stag bourbon, but they weren't clear on how many drinks he had. Source: journalstar.com
