Delmont residents encouraged to utilize help - Daily Republic
Following a community meal Thursday night at the Delmont Community Center, more than 50 Delmont residents heard presentations by representatives from Swier Law Firm and the Lutheran Social Services Center for Financial Resources on how to deal... Scott Swier, a lawyer with Swier Law Firm in Avon, said he is aware that some Delmont residents have not agreed with the amount of money their insurance companies awarded them for damage to their homes, businesses or property following the tornado. "Insurance companies are in the business to make money," Swier said. "Insurance companies' primary role, we think, should be to help us. If we pay premiums through a certain number of years and something happens like what happened here, then our insurance company should step up and give us what we think we paid for. Jesse Hall, credit and housing counselor with LSS Center for Financial Resources in Sioux Falls, provided handouts with information about who to contact to replace important documents that may have been lost or damaged, such as wedding and birth... "What I like to tell people after a disaster is that they may have had a way of budgeting that worked before, but now that things have changed, they may be finding that it's not working for them," Hall said.
