The Lexus was ahead of the BMW as both cars closed in on a third vehicle "that was traveling at or about the speed limit of 35 mph," Mike Jachles of Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue, said. The BMW struck the back of the third car before hitting the Lexus on its passenger side, causing "a chain reaction that pushed vehicle three off the road and into a pole," Jachles said. The BMW and Lexus crossed Southeast 10th Street into eastbound traffic and struck a Hyundai sedan and a Ford Ranger pickup. Those crashes damaged three other vehicles parked in front of homes on the south side of Southeast 10th Street, Jachles said. A 3-year-old boy and his parents, who were in the third car, were taken to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale and treated for injuries that were serious but not life threatening. Muniz, the BMW driver, and a passenger were treated at Broward Health North in Deerfield Beach for injuries that were not life threatening, according to Jachles. Joseph and a front seat passenger were not injured, but a 14-year-old girl in the backseat of the Lexus, taken to Broward Health Medical Center, was in critical condition on Sunday. A 19-year-old man, also in the back of the Lexus, was taken to Broward Health North and treated for minor injuries. Source: www.sun-sentinel.com
