Roanoke car wreck takes out power pole, almost 10% of city loses power - WDBJ7

hundreds were without power for most of today and thousands more started the day with no electricity. it all happened after a car crashed into a utility pole. nadia the crash happened here on old mountain road in north east roanoke. the power was out for hours, and residents here are happy today wasn't a one-hundred degree day. "all of a sudden th fan went out and the microwave gave me a chirp so i knew that the power went out. " a teenage driver crashed into this utility pole leaving crews with quite the job. at its peak almost ten percent of the city, about forty-six hundred people, were without power sunday morning. police say there's nothing to show speed played a factor in this crash. she says people need to be more careful on old mountain road. "the guy that live upstairs has kids, i have kids, my mom lives across the street she has my niece and nephew, and there's a lot of kids that live in this neighborhood and people fly up and down this road constantly. " weed would like people to be more careful too, but it's not stopping him from tending to his lawn.
