Auction puts American history on display - Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier

WAVERLY | Over the course of 35 years, Ed Buscko of Minnesota, amassed a treasure trove of vintage toys. Wayne Yoder of Wautoma, Wis. Yoder's subspecialty is occupational shaving mugs, which barbers used from about 1870 to 1920. His record deal for a rare specimen brought $45,000. But even for an auctioneer who specializes in selling other people's valued collections, Buscko's... "He brought us 6,000 toys. "He delivered them in five, 24-foot trailers, wall to wall," added Lane Ki, one of Yoder's employees. Redistributing Buscko's collection began Friday and Saturday with back-to-back sales at The Centre in Waverly, and only a few hundred of the toys were available. Yoder, 46, started organizing special-event auctions in January in Waverly four years ago. He also has assisted at the Waverly Midwest Horse Sale for perhaps 15 years, so he knows the area and the market. Buscko's collection included toys made by Buddy L, Tonka, Structo and Wyandotte. The vehicles represented just about any and every thing ever manufactured on wheels -- tow trucks, vehicle carriers, sand loaders, ambulances, airline baggage movers, road graders and even a couple of missile and rocket launchers.
