Le Sueur Fire Department honors two fighters - Southernminn.com
Tom Obele (Chief). Mark Mediger (2nd Assistant Chief). Tom Gerlich (1st Assistant Chief/Training Officer). Kevin Brandt (Captain/Training Officer). Marty Milam (Captain/Training Officer). Steve Breaker. “The determination and cooperation that both Steve and Matt show is instrumental to the way we run things,” said First Assistant Chief Tom Gerlich. Each year since 1988, the award is given to a firefighter, sometimes two, who has shown a commitment to the position through participation in training, fire calls, committees, departments jobs, responsibilities, state school training and overall... Breaker and Hollnagel had the highest 2014 scores. The award serves more as a token of respect and appreciation to firefighters that have shown strong dedication than it is a pedestal for certain members to stand above the rest. “If I could stand up and give everyone of our firefighters an award I would,” said Gerlich. Breaker, 48, made 71 percent of fire calls and didn’t miss a single meeting or drill session. He worked on three special event committees, did all grant writing for the department and served as the organization’s treasurer. Hollnagel, 34, made 77 percent of fire calls and only missed one training session. He worked on one special event committee, worked on self-contained breathing apparatus maintenance and spent 12 hours in extra training at state school. Breaker wins 2nd award.
