San Jose Earthquakes host Manchester United - Contra Costa Times

SAN JOSE -- Earthquakes left back Jordan Stewart is a Chelsea fan, so he's not rooting for Manchester United to reclaim the English Premier League crown next season, even if United appears intent on buying its way back to the top. And he certainly won't be cheering for the Red Devils on Tuesday night when the Quakes host the English giant at Avaya Stadium in the International Champions Cup North America. "You always want to do well and to try and beat them, but in the same breath you know it's going to be a hard task," said Stewart, who played 15 years as a pro in England. Man United boasts three new signings -- Germany midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, France international Morgan Schneiderlin and Italian defender Matteo Darmian. But don't expect the Quakes to bow at Man United's heralded feet. "You want to make sure that they know they're in a game," Quakes coach Dominic Kinnear said. "You want to make sure that, 'Hey, we're not just here to make up the numbers and to shake their hands and to trade jerseys after the game. That said, Kinnear doesn't think the Quakes will win the possession game or anything like that. A native of Birmingham, England, Stewart, 33, has noticed some Twitter excitement from his friends back home with Man United on the Quakes schedule. Source: www.contracostatimes.com
