A new BMW 5 Series is due to go on sale in 2017. The new model, which is currently in development, will take the fight to new and improved versions of the Mercedes E-Class , Jaguar XF and Audi A6. A revamped version of the BMW M5 performance saloon will go on sale a year or two after the standard car, competing with the Audi RS6, Jaguar XFR and Mercedes E63 AMG. As with the current car, buyers will be able to enjoy a sportier look and drive in BMW 5 Series M Sport models. BMW 5 Series saloon and Touring While prototypes of both estate and saloon versions of the new 5 Series have been spotted in testing, it's the saloon that’ll hit the showrooms first. Like the new BMW 3 Series , the 5 Series will be offered in various trim levels including performance-orientated M Sport versions, as well as Luxury and SE models, which will offer a more comfortable ride. It's also thought an updated model of the quirky 5 Series GT (a 5 Series that offers SUV-style ride height and hatchback practicality) will be announced at a slightly later date.
