Police cars through the ages - The Northern Echo
THE ever-changing world of the police car has come under the spotlight at a North Yorkshire museum. An extensive collection of model police vehicles through the generations has gone on show at the Prison and Police Museum in Ripon. Packed with variety, its takes in everything from the basic old Model T Ford to the modern, high-tech and sophisticated BMW 5 series. The model police vehicle collection was originally amassed by David Hirst who joined Leeds City Police in 1969. He retired in 1993 as a result of injuries received in a motorcycle accident. The Ripon Museums Trust acquired the models from his family with the help of Friends of Harrogate District Museums. Source: www.thenorthernecho.co.uk
