Auto Review: 2015 BMW 228 flashes cute smile, strong legs - Reading Eagle
Cute clings to the compact BMW 228 like $50 perfume on a bubbly Chi Omega. Small and a bit blocky, the 228 radiates with all the usual BMW styling cues. Blacked-out kidney-bean grilles seem shaped to match a millennial's sunglasses, and the car's clean body looks more casually fit than lean and mean. And that kind of captures modern BMWs, I thought. Even the last X6 crossover I drove - a puffed-up, 5,500-pound mockery of BMW's claimed values - delivered a shockingly potent punch. Scratch just about any polished, overpriced BMW and you can still see German fire flickering through its clearcoat. Just to keep all of us slightly confused - and make room for yet another model - BMW now calls the former 1-series cars 2s and has divided the 3-series into 3s and 4s. Somewhere down the line, I suspect, BMW's children will need serious... But for now, the 228 looks a bit sleeker than the chunky 1-series cars did, thanks to 2. 5 inches of additional length and a 1. 2-inch longer wheelbase. The 2-series cars ride on a shorter version of the 3-series platform, so they inherit good genes. Source: readingeagle.com
