Killer of two women in 2010 case never found - The Augusta Chronicle

A passerby alerted police after finding the bodies of Nancy Cushman, 19, of Beech Island, and Angela Brooks, 17, of Warrenville, in an empty lot near the railroad track at Twiggs Street and Laney Walker Boulevard. Scott Peebles said at a news conference following the shooting that the victims had been placed side-by-side, kneeling or possibly lying on the ground, and shot execution-style. Police canvassed the area and discovered Cushman’s 1999 Cadillac Escalade at Second and Telfair streets. Police said the killer likely drove the Escalade from the scene. Police later released surveillance video of two men stopping at a convenience store in Cushman’s vehicle, but they could not say if the convenience store stop happened before or after the girls were killed. Both men identified in the video were questioned and released, police said. Police also publicly named Travis Lorenzo Berrian, then-26, as a “person of interest” and then upgraded him to a “suspect. ” Beckman said Berrian was the Brooks’ boyfriend and Cushman’s cousin. In July 2013, Berrian died when he and a probation officer fought over a gun in the state probation office on Greene Street. Police said the officer was attempting to place Berrian in custody for active warrants when he reached for the gun. At least two shots were fired, resulting in Berrian’s death and injuries to the probation officer. Source: chronicle.augusta.com
