GM axes U.S. version of Chevy Captiva Sport -- a fleet staple - Automotive News
DETROIT -- General Motors has axed the U. S. version of the Chevrolet Captiva Sport, ending a three-year run for the fleet-only small crossover. The planned introduction of the Trax small crossover in early 2015 should absorb Captiva Sport demand and will give Chevy a three-crossover lineup, along with the compact Equinox and large Traverse. The Captiva Sport, essentially a rebadged Saturn Vue, went on sale in the U. S. in the fall of 2011 for rental companies and other fleet customers. Captiva Sport sales peaked in 2013 at 47,600. GM sold 35,275 through October of this year, including just 32 last month as dealers phased out inventory. Though intended only for fleet customers, the Captiva Sport found a following among retail customers on used lots as a less expensive alternative to the pricier Equinox. Source: www.autonews.com
