Officer accidentally helps robber - WXIA-TV

CONYERS, Ga. -- At 9:30 Sunday night, Conyers Police responded to Hibbett Sports on Dogwood Drive to investigate an armed robbery. A group of three Hibbett employees walked to the back door after closing the store. When they opened the door, a six-foot tall black man wearing all black pointed a gun at them. They immediately called 911. The witnesses described the robber as a black man, weighing 200 pounds, with black shoes, a black jacket, and black pants. Thirty minutes earlier, the officer had been working security at the Conyers Crossroads Shopping Center. While patrolling the area, he saw a white Chevrolet Monte Carlo enter the back parking lot. He saw a black 200 pound man walking toward Hibbett Sports. When the officer approached him, he said his car battery had died and asked for a jump. The officer checked in with Conyers Dispatch, and told them he was in contact with a suspicious person. The officer grabbed his jump box and told the man he needed to see his identification. The driver's license photo matched the man. His vehicle started, and both the officer and the man drove away from the back parking lot. The officer continued to patrol the area.
