Miss Texas USA, McAllen native, competes for Miss USA next month - Monitor
Miss USA 2015 will be held July 12 in Baton Rouge, LA. Guerra sees the national pageant as a test of both mind and body, and hopes to top the 49 other states’ representatives to earn a chance at competing for Miss Universe. Guerra is the first Miss RGV crowned Miss Texas USA since the 1960s and graduated a semester early from the University of Incarnate Word to focus on the responsibilities of her title. The McAllen native sees her inclusion in the Miss USA pageant as putting McAllen on the map nationally. A: One of the messages I’ve been telling kids whenever I go (to the RGV) is that a lot of people from the Valley feel like they’re at a disadvantage — at least that’s what I’ve been getting. I’ve worked just as hard as any of the other girls to compete in pageantry and different things. I’ve always had pride in being a Valley girl. A lot of people down there (say), ‘I’m from the Valley. If you work hard enough, you can do it. Q: What has your life been like since you’ve been put in the unique position of Miss Texas USA. All the people I'm working with to prepare for Miss USA are out of Houston. My life as Miss Texas consists of basically travelling all over the state. People have to request me online, and wherever I'm requested, that'll what I'll do. In Houston, I was going to the children's hospital a lot and visiting kids there, trying to inspire and encourage them. Source: www.themonitor.com
