Work to resume on Modesto's crash-prone Claribel, Coffee intersection - Modesto Bee
Signal lights are in sight for motorists at the busy intersection of Claribel and Coffee roads. Since October or November, the longtime four-way stop has had most of its new traffic signals in place but not operating. Temporary stop signs have been in place, as well as orange traffic cones, signage well ahead of the intersection warning of road work and reduced speed, and closer message boards alternately announcing “Lane shift ahead,” “Road work ahead” and... Despite the warnings, the intersection has been the site of three serious injury crashes in 2015:. On June 11, a crash sent two children to UC Davis Medical Center via helicopter. A woman driving a Dodge Ram pickup ran a stop sign and crashed into a woman and her three children in an Acura MDX, which had stopped at the intersection. The traffic controls in place are “pretty standard,” said Chris Brady, Stanislaus County Public Works deputy director in charge of construction and road maintenance. The good news, Brady offered, is after roadwork had to be on hold for six to eight months as Pacific Gas & Electric relocated a natural gas transmission tank, it’s beginning again. By early October, Brady said, signal lights at the intersection should be flashing. Source: www.modbee.com
