STRONG - John Thomas, 64, of 152 Second St. , Strong, escaped injury Wednesday when a van he was driving on East Street crashed into and knocked over a utility pole. Mount Carmel Police Chief Brian Hollenbush said Thomas was driving a Chevrolet Venture south on Route 61 at about 4 p. m. when he lost his brakes while turning onto East Street and lost control. Also responding were Kulpmont Police Chief Michael Pitcavage, firefighters from Strong, AREA Services Ambulance and Mount Carmel fire police.
