Additional info regarding the Motorcraft FS106. It's designed by Ford/Motorcraft to be a Lifetime Filter and has no paper element in it. FORD has discontinued the actual filter as an "unnecessary part". The plastic grate is designed to protect the fan immediately behind where the filter would be. The reason for the design change is because the paper filters were constantly clogging and are simply 'not necessary.'
