Auburndale Teen Killed in Crash - The Ledger

He was a passenger in a silver GMC Yukon driven by Caleb Atchison, 18, that was heading east on Mount Olive Road in a silver GMC Yukon. As the GMC negotiated a curve to the left about 10:30 p. m. the rear end of the vehicle apparently lost traction and it began to rotate and crossed over into the other lane. Once the Yukon had crossed the center line it had rotated 90 degrees and was struck on the passenger side by a 1997 Ford pickup truck driven by Thomas Feichtel, 39, of Auburndale, Wilder said. The truck was travelling west on Mount Olive Road and after striking the Yukon, both vehicles came to rest on the north shoulder of the road, Wilder said. The Polk County Fire and EMS units responded and extricated Zachary Atchison from the Yukon. He was wearing his seat belt and the air bags properly deployed in the Yukon. Caleb Atchison was taken to Lakeland Regional Health Medical Center and is in stable condition, said Wilder. A passenger in the pickup, Hailey Hutchings, 14, of Winter Haven was taken to Lakeland Regional with minor injuries, treated and released, and the driver, Feichtel, was not taken to a hospital, said Wilder.
