LYNDHURST - Police are warning residents not to leave their running cars unattended after Lyndhurst and North Arlington have experienced an uptick in auto thefts. Lyndhurst experienced its fourth and fifth motor vehicle thefts in the last four months Monday morning between 6 a. m. and 7 a. m. In both recent incidents, residents started their cars and then left them unattended, according to Police Capt. Ten minutes later when the victim went back outside the car, the 2011 Nissan Murano, was gone, Valente said. Again, the victim had left his car running and unattended for a short time when it was stolen, according to Valente. If residents insist on warming up their cars before getting inside, Valente suggested either using an extra key to keep the car locked while it is running, or purchasing a remote starter. Two of the five vehicles left running before being stolen out of Lyndhurst have since been recovered. 31, 2014 was recently recovered in Philadelphia and a 2010 Honda Pilot stolen on March 10 was recovered in East Orange, according to Valente. In addition, the Nissan Murano stolen on the March 30 was recovered on March 31 at approximately 1:28 a. m. in Newark. The fifth vehicle stolen while running occurred on March 25 at The Corner Store, located at the corner of Valley Brook Avenue and Watson Avenue. Source: www.northjersey.com
