Car review: 2015 Mitsubishi L200 DI-D Warrior - Daily Post North Wales

With 330 changes, you’d think that the fifth-generation version of Mitsubishi’s popular and practical L200 pick-up would look considerably different to its predecessor. However, given that the Series 4 has outsold all of its rivals over the last nine years, it's not too much of a surprise to find that the Series 5 is pretty familiar in its overall appearance. Under the bonnet, in preparation for the arrival of emissions-based taxation for pick-ups, Mitsubishi has made its new all-aluminium 2. 4-litre turbodiesel as clean as possible. Variable valve timing and a variable-geometry turbocharger result in a CO2 figure of 173g/km of CO2 in this specification, superior to its next-cleanest rival the 192g/km Isuzu D-Max. An impressive new fuel consumption average of 42. 8mpg beats the Isuzu by 4. 1mpg, and both power and torque have climbed slightly, giving the L200 a useful and fun chunk of low-down urge. The turbocharged 2. 4-litre diesel produces its 178bhp peak at 3500rpm and moves the L200 down the road convincingly. The six-speed manual is long in terms of the gearlever action but the ratios are sensible and the change action is snappy. Hit Mitsubishi's claimed 42. 8mpg and that would become 700 miles. The firm reeled off a list of stats it claims class leadership for: fuel economy, emissions, performance, 4WD tech, safety, utility, manoeuvrability, driving dynamics… never before, said Bradley, has a new car been launched that leads the class in... Look more closely, though and you’ll see the lines are more tightly sculpted, the front more modern and, with upper-grade trim’s daytime LED running lights, appreciably more distinctive. Mitsubishi is selling it with an all-new, all-aluminium 2. 4-litre DI-D diesel engine, the first in the sector to have variable valve timing.
