Anderson County couple on trial in Georgia, accused in death of Townville man - Anderson Independent Mail

ELBERTON, Ga. — The charred remains of Charles Paul Mills lay in the trunk of his own car while a Georgia investigator worked under the threat of storms and fading daylight to piece together a troubling case that started in South Carolina. Mills, 35, was fatally shot in a mobile home on Project Road in Iva before his body was stuffed into his Kia Spectra and driven from Upstate South Carolina to Elbert County, Georgia, according to investigators in two states. This week, Jonathon Reid Cann, 27, of Iva and Chelsea Brooke Clary, 23, of Anderson are on trial in rural Georgia, accused of crossing state lines and setting Mills’ car on fire to conceal his death. The Georgia charges came shortly after Mills’ death last fall, but in South Carolina, an Anderson County judge only recently signed murder warrants on the couple. They cried as Agent Jeremy Howell of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation described seeing Mills’ skull and rib bones in the burned shell of his car. According to indictments, the truck belonged to Jana Clary, Chelsea Clary’s mother. The younger Clary and Cann were arrested on Hornets Bridge Road in Elberton the same day that Mills’ body was discovered. Inside the backpack were Jana Clary’s wallet and photo identification, along with a title to a Jeep Wagoneer, Howell said. Source: www.independentmail.com
