Trooper Island builds bridges between kids, law enforcement - Evansville Courier & Press

CLINTON COUNTY, Ky. - Nestled in Dale Hollow Lake in Clinton County, Kentucky, lies roughly 35 acres that some might call paradise. “We take the kids whose families may not be able to afford extras like summer camp, or kids who’ve seen parents or relatives arrested and who might need to build positive relationships with law enforcement,” said Trooper Corey King, public affairs... “Trooper Island is something we’ve done since 1965,” King said. “This camp is one of the finer things law enforcement can do. Here lately, law enforcement have been put in a negative light. Trooper Island is fully funded by donations — primarily from raffling off vehicles and events such as a golf scramble. The donations pay for activities and food annually for about 700 kids during the eight weeks the camp is open. The money also pays the upkeep of the 35-acre island, King said. The $10 tickets give people the chance to win a 2015 GMC Sierra crew cab truck. Contributions/donations for the camp go even farther than just paying for activities and food. “Troopers have established what’s been lovingly nicknamed ‘Little Walmart’ on the island,” he said.
