2014 Ford Transit Receives 347-lb-ft Power Stroke 3.2-Liter Turbodiesel I-5 - MotorTrend Magazine

The 2014 Transit's new turbodiesel five-pot joins the F-Series Super Duty's big 6. 7-liter turbodiesel V-8 as Ford's second diesel offering in the United States. Currently available in the global Ford Ranger , the Transit's 3. 2-liter turbodiesel I-5 is expected make around 197 hp and 347 lb-ft of torque – about the same output the engine is rated at in Europe. According to Ford, 90 percent of the engine's peak torque is available from 1700-3500 rpm. Ford also expects the engine to be B20 biodiesel-compatible. Perhaps realizing that many Americans have bad memories of diesel engines, Ford has fitted the 3. 2-liter I-5 with quick-start glow plugs to quicken startups at below-freezing temperatures. Ford also has calibrated fuel injection to reduce diesel clatter. I have been following the mess with the big three diesel engines in the trucks for several years. I will not buy a diesel. Diesel in the USA is not up to European standards so the engines suffer and our government enforced pollution controls don't work properly so the whole concept is no longer an economic plus. The woman and her daughter were by the trailhead sign when they decided to take a picture with a bison that was about 6 yards away from them. When they turned their backs to the bison to take the picture, someone warned that they were too close. They heard the bison’s footsteps moving toward them and started to run, but the bison caught the mother on the right side, lifted her up and tossed her with its head. The woman’s father covered her with his body to protect her and the bison moved about 3 yards away. “The family said they read the warnings in both the park literature and the signage, but saw other people close to the bison, so they thought it would be OK,” said Colleen Rawlings, Old Faithful district ranger.
