Ford builds new medium-duty trucks in US for 1st time - Detroit Free Press

Ford celebrates the return of medium-duty truck production in the U. S. today. Joe Hinrichs, president of the Americas, was to be in Avon Lake, Ohio, for the production launch of the new 2016 Ford F-650 and F-750 medium-duty trucks, which had been built in Mexico in a joint venture plant with Navistar. “Our investment in Ohio Assembly Plant reinforces our commitment to building vehicles in America and to delivering best-in-class commercial trucks,” Hinrichs said in a statement. “Working with our partners in the UAW, we found a way to make the costs competitive enough to bring production of a whole new generation of work trucks to Ohio. "Through collective bargaining, we were able to secure production of the Ford F-650/F-750 to Ohio Assembly Plant,” said Jimmy Settles, UAW vice president and director, National Ford Department, in a news release. The union is already upset that Ford recently announced plans to spend $2. 5 billion to build new engines and transmissions in Mexico. The Avon Lake plant built the E-Series van until the summer of 2014. The van has been discontinued but the plant continues to make the E-Series cutaway vans and stripped chassis that are used for vehicles such as ambulances. Source: www.freep.com
