Ford Announces Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System - Top Speed

Still in the development phase, Ford’s Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System uses existing technologies such as Adaptive Front Lighting System and Traffic Sign Recognition to adjust lighting in certain driving conditions. Another helpful feature of the system is the ability to detect road signs and add extra lighting along the side of the roads to make reading the signs easier and at a greater distance. And still more, an additional element of the safety feature is Spot Lighting, which uses the camera to detect road hazards (including pedestrians and some larger animals) and can warn the driver accordingly. Ford’s Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System can widen the beam at junctions and roundabouts to better illuminate hazards that are not in the direction of travel. Ford’s Camera-Based Advanced Front Lighting System and Spot Lighting help ensure the driver is quickly alerted to people or animals that could present a danger,” said Ken Washington, vice president, Ford Research and Advanced Engineering. Driver with booze eludes police - Moultrie Observer

A Colquitt County Sheriff’s Office investigator encountered the man as he was stopped at a red light waiting to turn right onto First Avenue Southeast off Veterans Parkway. The officer got the man’s attention and said: “You’ve got to be kidding me,” at which time the driver of the 1995 Dodge Caravan lifted up a bottle of Bud Ice beer, sheriff’s reports said. Jerome Burgess held up his badge so that it was visible to the driver and had him roll down his window, repeating: “You’ve got to be kidding me. ”The driver said that he was about to pour the beverage out. Burgess instructed the driver to pull into a nearby convenience store when the light changed to green. Instead, reports said, the driver accelerated after turning onto First Avenue Southeast, made a right turn onto Kingwood Garden, and stopped in the 40 block of that street. Burgess noticed a firearm in the car and stopped chasing the driver and stayed with the van to secure the weapon, instead calling for other officers for assistance in locating the driver.
