Extra police patrolling Mascoutah after girls report attempted abduction - STLtoday.com

Mascoutah police say a report by two girls that a man tried to abduct them was false. The two 11-year-old girls told police that they were walking near First and Green streets at about 9:45 p. m. Thursday when they saw a man come out of a church and get into a pickup truck. They told police that the man called them over to his truck and reached out and tried to grab the arm of one of the girls. By later Friday morning, police had found the man the girls described and interviewed him. Police then talked to the girls again, and they recanted, police say. Police say they would not be identifying the girls, and the girls will not face any criminal charges. Source: www.stltoday.com

A Scioto County school bus driver has been cited for failure to control a motor vehicle after a bus he was driving, loaded with students, Friday was involved in a minor crash. Robert Knipp, 43, of Ironton was operating a 2011 International School Bus belonging to the Vern Riffe School around 3:30 p. m. The Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash occurred on Scherers Hollow Road near Pleasant... Troopers said the bus was traveling northbound on Scherers Hollow Road around a slight left hand curve and that Knipp reportedly drove off the right side of the roadway and struck a guardrail. The bus was loaded with students at the time. that student was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center by Portsmouth Ambulance. A Scioto County man has been airlifted to a Columbus hospital following a single vehicle crash. Montgomery, 63, of Lucasville, was driving a 1997 Ford Ranger southbound on Lapperell Road in Pike County Friday when the Ohio State Highway Patrol said he drove off the right side of the road and struck a tree. The Portsmouth dispatch center received the report at around 3:54 p. m. and responded to the scene. Montgomery was charged with failure to control and operating a vehicle intoxicated. Moneta, Va. -24-year-old reporter Alison Parker and 27-year-old photographer Adam Ward from local news station WDBJ in Roanoke were killed Wednesday morning during a live news broadcast. Police say the suspect was 41-year-old Vester Lee Flanagan. The shooting occurred at Smith Mountain Lake in Moneta, Virginia. During a live interview at 6:45 a. m. from Bridgewater Plaza at Smith Mountain Lake, approximately eight gunshots were heard as reporter Alison Parker is seen interviewing someone on screen. The camera, held by photographer Adam Ward, then drops to the ground and the broadcast cuts back to the anchor desk. A short time later, WDBJ confirmed that Parker and Ward were killed in the shooting. Parker was 24. Ward was 27. Both grew up in Southwest Virginia.
