General Motors Sued For 15 Alleged Defects - CarComplaints.com

— As General Motors continues to evaluate death and injury claims submitted to its ignition switch compensation fund , many GM owners have skipped applying to the fund and instead filed lawsuits. A Texas lawsuit is the latest such lawsuit to accuse GM of selling 15 million vehicles with deadly ignition switch defects. The ignition switch lawsuit alleges GM kept quiet for 13 years as its own engineers were reporting problems with the ignition switches that could accidentally turn off if bumped by the driver's knee. These same ignition switches have caused millions of GM vehicles to be recalled while GM management faced tough questions at congressional hearings. While the number of ignition switch lawsuits exploded, GM created a compensation fund to reimburse those directly affected by the faulty switches. The compensation fund has also allowed people to apply for payment even though they might not have much of a case if they sued GM. So one of the many current General Motors recalls this year is recall 13036 which personally affects me because I own one of the cars involved, a 2011 Chevrolet Malibu. The first notice of the recall was mailed out about a month or so ago with notation that the parts were not available yet and then a second notice would come alerting us owners that we could take the cars in for the repair. Kelly ran from the silver 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Maxx he was driving, but officers quickly apprehended him. While ordering food at the drive-thru window, Kelly allegedly "pulled a firearm wrapped in a white cloth" on the employee and demanded money, records state. The employee ran to the back of the store, and Kelly tried to steal the cash drawer through the drive-thru window, records state. At 12:04 a. m. Sunday, Kelly pulled up to the drive-thru window of the Wendy's, 7407 Strawberry Plains Pike, and placed an order, records show. Kelly allegedly demanded cash from the drawer, but the Wendy's employee refused to comply. Kelly then climbed into the drive-thru window "and took the drawer himself" before driving away, records show. When Knoxville police arrested Kelly on I-40 near the Sevierville interchange, officers found the Wendy's cash drawer in the Malibu, records state.
