Halo ‘Vette with Z07 package offers a bit of everything, including an automatic. ROAD TEST EDITOR JAKE LINGEMAN: I’ve been waiting to drive this car for a few months now, and I have to say it’s nearly everything I expected, except for the eight-speed auto, but I’ll get to that in a second. Screaming yellow paint, black wheels and stripes, the back end looks like a KISS mask to me. I love the wickerbill spoiler. It looks like a race car. Who are they going to pull over, the beige Camry doing 84 mph or a yellow ‘Vette. The stitching looks clean and straight, the gaps are consistent, if a little wide, and all the center console and glove box doors close smoothly. I love the seats, they offer great support, both laterally and front to back, and they have lots of adjustment to get that perfect driving position. The nav and radio setup are easy to learn and easy to use. After a few turns it revs loud on startup before dropping into a mean-sounding burble. Throw a few revs at it and it barks angrily, scaring anyone within earshot not paying attention. The exhaust really opens up at 3,500 rpm or so. The potential for a spinoff of Earth City-based Save-A-Lot was announced Tuesday by its Minneapolis-based parent, SuperValu Inc. Such a move could free the faster-growing discount chain from the more sluggish elements of SuperValu’s portfolio and provide more value for the company’s shareholders. “We believe Save-A-Lot has significant growth potential,” said Sam Duncan, SuperValu’s chief executive, in a statement. Save-A-Lot, which has 1,300 stores, was founded by Bill Moran, who started with one store in Cahokia in 1977. The chain grew quickly, reaching more than 80 stores by the early 1980s. In 1988, the company was sold to Wetterau Inc. By 1992, the company had increased the Save-A-Lot stable to 350 stores before agreeing to be purchased by SuperValu in a deal worth $1. 1 billion. Splitting off the Save-A-Lot stores would certainly be in line with those previous moves, as SuperValu moves toward the wholesale side of the industry, said Jim Hertel, an analyst with Willard Bishop in Barrington, Ill. And while there’s been no indication that SuperValu is under any such pressure, that environment could be influencing the company’s decisions, said Brian Yarbrough, a retail analyst with Edward Jones. As Lubbock officials continue working to uncover and identify human remains found Saturday in South Lubbock County, there are a handful of South Plains families with missing loved ones. Though Saturday’s discovery by Lubbock police came after a surge in activity regarding missing Lubbock teen Mark Ysasaga, police and the Lubbock County Medical Examiner’s Office have yet to identify the human remains. Soon after the police announcement, the family of Mark Ysasaga announced they are organizing a car wash fundraiser for June 20 at O’Reilly Auto Parts at 50th Street and Avenue Q to help pay for his funeral expenses. Ysasaga and Maegan Hembree are among several people missing from the South Plains and law enforcement officials believe each mystery can be solved with information from the public. He was 15 years old when he went missing June 14, 2012. The Lubbock Police Department announced May 14 that an arrest warrant had been issued for 20-year-old Jose Angel Simental. Enoe Garcia Jr. DPS investigators believe foul play may be possible in the July, 1, 2000, disappearance of then-36-year-old Enoe Garcia Jr. Garcia — who is listed as endangered — was last known to be driving.
