It makes jaws drop and makes people drool. Really, this is a well-executed ute in every way. It's big, and the driving position is domineering. General Motors makes solid SUVs, and this is the top of the line. My only beef is that you can get pretty much the same ute (minus the bling) in Chevrolet and GMC trim for a lot less than $88,000. INTERACTIVE ASSOCIATE EDITOR DAVID ARNOUTS: I never really understood the appeal of the gigantic SUV until I drove... As mentioned, the commanding driving position is something I have longed for ever since climbing down and out of this ute. The panoramic views from the opulent interior spoiled me and made me lust for the one person in an eight-person truck scenario soon after. Cosmetically, the Escalade has come a long way. The more refined look of this SUV sits well with me. Twenty-two-inch wheels come standard but look surprisingly small on the gargantuan exterior. Source: autoweek.com

And the 2011 Cadillac Escalade Platinum portfolio happens to consist of some of the most expensive vehicles General Motors makes, second only to the 638 horsepower Corvette ZR1. So yeah, I did feel privileged to drive the 222-inch ESV version, but... No options — as everything comes standard with the Platinum package, and the standard features are a looong list. Then there’s the olive ash and walnut burl wood — exclusive to the Platinum Edition — that decorates the cockpit quite elegantly and is complimented with aluminum accents. The 14-way Tehama leather seats I sat in felt top notch, and could be heated or cooled with the push of a button, much like the front row cup holders. The list goes on with MP3/iPod connectivity, Bluetooth, tri-zone climate control, a blind-zone alert system, ultrasonic rear parking assist with a backup camera… you get the idea. Cadillac’s exterior designers did a good job of trying to separate the ESV Platinum from its Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon platform mates with lots of chrome accents, a massively decorated shield-shaped grille, complimented by equally...
