Not to mention its world class interior and seductive V8 sound. Like MT pointed out, I too favor the Benz’s woodgrain interior over everyone else’s heavy carbon fiber trimming. To me, carbon fiber trimming looks better in exotics and non luxury high performance cars. It’s awesome to see this Caddy not only hang with the Germans, but beat them in the performance metric. Now that GM has successfully conquered their most hated rival, BMW, in the performance metric, hopefully they’ll turn their sights on Mercedes Benz and benchmark them for interior quality and refinement. The Cadillac is clearly the better track car, whilst the AMG, with it’s lovely V8 and world class interior, is the better and more liveable car as a daily driver. It’s just a matter of what is more important to the buyer, and unfortunately for Cadillac, majority of people shopping in this segment are not taking their cars to the track, at least not regularly. The key to the Cadillac is they have the mechanics right but there is still some work to do in some areas. The key is not to just be close or beat them in some areas but to make a car that is undisputed superior. They got it damn close but the car was short changed in areas buy the board. And now it releases — some in the know might say uncages — the all-new ATS-V in an American attempt to unseat BMW as the de rigueur performance luxury Goliath. The “V” is Cadillac’s performance designation and both the ATS-V coupe and sedan versions are powered by a first-ever twin-turbo 3. 6-liter V6 cranking out a gut-churning 464 horsepower and 444 foot-pounds of torque. Power goes to the rear via a short-throw, six-speed Tremec manual or a paddle-shift eight-speed automatic featuring launch control and the blindingly fast, and hugely efficient, Performance Algorithm Shift software. Fun is what you’ll have in the ATS-V because much, much more thought went into it than just strapping a powerful new engine to an existing platform. A Cadillac on the track. ATS-V chief engineer Tony Roma, previously the program manager for the Camaro ZL1, says, “The car is ready for the track right off the showroom floor, with no special modifications required. The change to turbo power resulted in a car that had the same horsepower as before, but a torque curve like the M3 had never seen. And now, with the ATS-V, Cadillac is building the M3 BMW should have. In order for Cadillac to be taken seriously as a luxury performance brand, since that's what they are now, they needed a car that could be considered a competitor with the M3. That means that they took the ATS-V very, very seriously. Cadillac was also adamant that they are "not in the Hellcat business. The traction control system is derived from the system that's on the ATS race car. And while the V weighs about 300 pounds more than the M3, it feels lighter, smaller (it is slightly smaller), and more alive. The ATS doesn't. On Monticello Motor Club's challenging 4. 1 mile track, the ATS feels like it belongs.
