Police: One Dead After Drugged Driver Causes 4-Car Crash - Patch.com

A man driving while high on drugs triggered a 4-car crash in Shirley Tuesday night that killed one man and sent numerous others to the hospital, police said. According to police, 31-year-old Kendell Owens, of Middle Island, was driving a 2005 Infiniti G35 east on Montauk Highway when his vehicle struck a 2006 Chrysler Sebring, driven by Richard Garcia, 45, of Shirley, who was traveling north on the... Alyssa Toth, 23, of Mastic, was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Cruze north on William Floyd Parkway behind Garcia’s car and crashed into his car after the initial collision. Patino and his four passengers, including an infant boy and a two-year-old girl, were transported to an area hospital to be checked out and were later released, police said. He was transported to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center in East Patchogue where he was treated for minor injuries and released. Owens told reporters Wednesday morning that he was high on PCP at the time of the crash, according to NBC 4. “I’m sorry for anyone that was hurt,” Owens said, according to the report, adding that Wednesday is his daughter’s birthday. EXECUTIVE EDITOR ROGER HART: Each time I see and drive this BMW X6 M, I seriously wonder just who the audience is. Really. A $95,000 sled that weighs in at 5,300 pounds and looks, like, well--let's just say it kind of makes a camel look good. But with tires as wide as drag slicks, the X6 M tramlined on the road so bad that I got tired from constantly adjusting the steering to keep this between the ditches. Yes, it still drives like a BMW--a very big, very heavy and semiquick BMW. But really, who needs or wants a car like this. This car is too heavy to be really quick and too small to really act as an SUV. Really compelling. Like 0-to-60-mph-in-holy-crap-four-and-a-half-seconds kind of compelling. It's a challenge keeping the right foot properly leashed when all it wants to do is be that person driving way too stupidly fast for the ambient conditions. When I drove the beast at Road Atlanta last year, I almost couldn't believe how well the 5,300-pound monstrosity managed to replicate the driving dynamics of a much smaller, lighter BMW. And yet this is where the über car geeks get it way, way wrong. Just because it drives awesomely doesn't necessarily mean it's an awesome car. Source: autoweek.com

Hubert Keller's Burger Bar in the Mandalay Bay serves something called the Rossini. It's served with a reduced brown sauce and -- wait for it -- costs $60. At first blush, you might think the Rossini a grotesque waste of money. That proves you've never tasted it, because if its borderline-obscene flavors had passed your lips, you'd agree (with me) that the price is entirely justified. Associate road test editor Carlos Lago, the man with the solid-brass cojones big enough to order one, is still grinning and making post-coital noises. The $164,145 as-tested price might initially seem preposterous, but please consider all it comes with. There's the 500-horsepower twin-turbo V-8, which, thanks to the optional Sport Chrono Package Plus, makes 568 pound-feet of torque instead of the 516 pound-feet found in the "regular" Pan-Turb. The Porsche's level of decadence is on par with not only Keller's excessive burger, but also the latter days of the Roman Empire. Of course, you can throw $70K at lots of cars to make them faster than the Panamera Turbo. and they'd cost less than the Porsche No one has EVER claimed that the Porsche's price is a direct relation to it's performance.
