  The crash site is four miles south of where the wrong-way driver was first reported. The drivers of both vehicles, a 2002 BMW 530 and a 2000 Ford Expedition SUV, were trapped. Fire consumed the BMW. Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene.

2 killed, 4 injured in wrong-way driver crash on I-5 - KRCRTV.COM

Two drivers were killed early Sunday after a wrong-way driver on Interstate 5 slammed head-on into another vehicle. According to a news release from the California Highway Patrol, the collision happened at 12:53 a. m. on Interstate 5, just north of the Tehama Avenue exit south of Red Bluff in the Gerber area. The CHP received a 911 call reporting a wrong-way driver headed southbound in the northbound lanes of Interstate 5 from Flores Avenue in Tehama County, south of Red Bluff. The vehicle was described as a black BMW sedan. A short time later, dispatchers received another call, reporting a head-on collision on northbound Interstate 5 just north of the Tehama Avenue overcrossing in the Gerber area. The drivers of both vehicles, a 2002 BMW 530 and a 2000 Ford Expedition SUV, were trapped. Due to the fire damage to the BMW, no information was immediately available about the woman who was driving the BMW. The driver of the Ford Expedition was a 74-year-old woman from Milpitas. CHP officers and deputies helped remove four passengers from the Ford Expedition, including two children, ages 10 and 7. Those passengers included Rex Galasinao, 45 of Milpitas, who suffered major injuries and was taken to Mercy Medical Center in... The car Candice Willis saw would eventually crash into an SUV, killing two people and injuring four others Saturday night. Willis was on a shuttle bus with her 15-month-old son on Interstate 5 in the Gerber area, when they witnessed the wrong way driver. "Just kind of out of nowhere a car was traveling southbound on the Northbound lane right at us," Willis explained. "He was able to swerve to the left and the car next to us was able to swerve to the right, and the car that was traveling the wrong way went in between us and the car next to us," she described. Minutes later that car, a 2002 BMW 530, according to the California Highway Patrol, would crash into a 2000 Ford Expedition SUV. Candice Willis remembered seeing first responders pass by. "With in a couple minutes we saw a few cop cars driving by and a paramedic," Willis said. Two other adults and a 7-year-old and 10-year-old were also injured in the crash. Willis was shaken up, but it wasn't until Sunday morning when she read about the car accident that she said everything began to sink in.
